Bradley Place Residence II

This project takes advantage of a site with a feature very unique to Chicago: width. An extra-wide lot allows for this modern sunroom addition to be naturally lit from three sides. The addition was designed with a modest footprint in order to maintain a large exterior space used for a garden, play area, and outdoor dining.

The sunroom opens out to an exterior kitchen complete with storage, sink, and barbecue.

The sunroom, which houses informal sitting and dining space, is comprised of three walls of glass anchored by a central, stone-clad chimney — enclosing interior and exterior wood-burning fireplaces.

Inside the original house, an existing stair was renovated with glass and steel railings. The two-story open stair looks out onto the planted sunroom roof.
